A woman has died after being struck by a car early this afternoon in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., a driver was attempting to parallel park his vehicle on the north side of the 2800 block West Broadway when, for an unknown reason, the car accelerated, striking a 52 year old Vancouver woman who was walking westbound on the sidewalk. The woman was pinned between the vehicle and a storefront. She was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The VPD Collision Investigation Unit is handling the investigation and speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors. The 67 year old driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, and the car will undergo mechanical testing.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses to contact them at (604) 717-8101.
This is Vancouver’s eighth traffic-related fatality of 2012 compared to seven year-to-date in 2011 and four year-to-date in 2010.
