Arson investigators from the Vancouver Police and Vancouver Fire and Rescue Service are investigating a suspicious overnight fire that has destroyed one Vancouver Parks Board truck, significantly damaged two others, and left a nearby tool shed with minor burn damage.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m. June 26th, Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services crews and officers from the Vancouver Police responded to calls of a fire on Vancouver Parks Board property adjacent to the Vancouver Police Mounted Unit and the Triple A Horse and Carriage stables.
Vancouver Fire and Rescue and Vancouver Police arrived to discover one Parks Board vehicle fully engulfed in flames, two others catching fire, and the fire beginning to spread to a nearby shed. Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze before the fire could take hold on any nearby structures and were able to prevent any of the nearby horses from being injured. The property damage is estimated at about $70,000.
Investigators have determined that the fire was deliberately set and are continuing the investigation. Police are working closely with Park staff and officers will be conducting stepped-up patrols in Stanley Park and surrounding areas.
Arson investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to contact them at (604) 717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
