Are You Helping Thieves?   Radio Spot 1    |   Radio Spot 2

Inspector Les Yeo, in charge of the VPD Traffic Section, is reminding people again not to leave valuables in their car after a recent spike in thefts from vehicles.

While the city is seeing a downward trend in violent crime, response times and traffic deaths, property crime has increased 5.8% from the same quarter last year. This is largely in part because of a 25% increase in thefts from vehicles.

“This gives us an opportunity to remind the public that if you leave things in your car, thieves won’t,” says Yeo. “Typically, thefts from autos are a crime of opportunity. Put things in your trunk or take them away with you.”
