Vancouver Police and Fire and Rescue Services are working with Emergency Social Services to find housing for 18 people that have been displaced as a result of an early morning fire.
Around 6:30 on December24th, Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services responded to a fire on the ground floor of the London Hotel in the 700 block of Main Street. Fire and Rescue Services worked quickly to extinguish the blaze that left one man suffering from smoke inhalation. The 56 year old Vancouver man’s injuries are not life-threatening.
The damage caused by the fire was isolated to a portion of the ground floor which is now uninhabitable.
Police and fire crews are now working with Emergency Social Services to find temporary housing for 18 people that have been displaced as a result of the fire.
“We know how important it is for these people to have a warm, safe place to stay over the holidays,” says Vancouver Police spokesperson, Sergeant Randy Fincham. “Emergency Social Services were called in early to find appropriate housing for those displaced by the fire.”
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated but does not appear suspicious at this time.
