Vancouver Police have arrested the man believed to be responsible for the theft of camera gear over the Labour Day weekend in Stanley Park.

On Sunday, September 1st,, a man posing as a tourist seized an opportunity to walk off with a camera case containing three lenses, as a focused photographer took shots of a bride and groom during a wedding ceremony at Ferguson Point.

A video camera positioned on a tripod caught the thief in the act, picking up the case and walking off, unnoticed by wedding guests.

This morning, 50 year old Ahmed Baladie was arrested for the theft after investigators identified Baladie as the suspect caught on video allegedly stealing the expensive camera equipment.

Police are still looking for the stolen equipment which includes:

  • Canon 400 mm 2.8l camera lens
  • Canon  50 mm 1.2 l camera lens
  • Tameron 90 mm F 2.8 DI camera macro lens
  • Pelican camera case 1514

Ahmed Baladie has been released on a promise to appear with conditions not be in Stanley Park, pending his next scheduled court appearance on October 21st at 2:00 p.m.
