Police are continuing to investigate the fatal collision between a minivan and a transit bus.
The collision happened at about 12:45 this afternoon on East Broadway near St. Catherines Street. The driver of the minivan, and single occupant, was declared dead at the scene.
Five passengers aboard the transit bus were taken to several local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the bus was uninjured.
Early indications show that the van travelling west collided head-on with the transit bus in the eastbound lanes of Broadway as the bus slowed for the stop at St. Catherines. Broadway between Clark and Fraser Streets was blocked for several hours as investigators gathered evidence to try and determine the cause and factors involved in the collision. Broadway has since re-opened.
No details are being released regarding the identity of the deceased at this time.
This is Vancouver’s second traffic related fatality this year.
