Five officers are representing the Vancouver Police Department in the 98th Annual International Four Days Marches Nijmegen taking place in the Netherlands.

The officers are marching in operational police uniform alongside Dutch police officers from The Hague. The combined Dutch-Canadian troop of 50 police officers have joined 50,000 other police, military and civilian personnel from around the world to march 50 kilometres a day for four days.

Those who complete the march are awarded the “Vierdaagsekruis,” or Four Day Medal, which is a royally approved decoration Dutch service members may wear on their uniforms.

The VPD troop is currently part way through Day 2, and they will be providing updates and photos on their blog, early in the morning and late at night.

“Our days are a roller coaster ride of quick marching, like light infantry,” said Constable Barraclough in a text message sent from Nijmegen this morning.
