Update – Suspect Arrested

The search for an arsonist continues as officers from the VPD investigate three separate fires, intentionally set just hours apart on July 27th.

In all three cases, a man entered the public washrooms of various local shops and set fire to the contents of the garbage cans and waste bins.

The first fire was set at about 4:30 p.m. at a business on Robson near Bute Street.

The second happened about an hour later at a coffee shop on Davie Near Thurlow Street.

The third was started at about 7:30 p.m. at a restaurant on Mainland near Nelson Street.

There have been no injuries as a result of any of the three incidents and damage has been relatively minimal.

The suspect has been described by witnesses as white, in his mid to late 20s, with a medium build and short light brown hair. He was seen wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt.

Police will be canvassing for any potential video evidence from the affected and nearby businesses.
