Police and other emergency services had to deal with one of the largest crowds ever seen at the Celebration of Light, estimated between 300,000 and 400,000.

The VPD continued to show a very visible presence and worked closely with other police agencies and emergency services so those attending the event felt safe.

There were several miissing children reported lost in the large crowds, but all were fairly quickly reunited with parents. Police also extinguished at least two small fires, downtown and at Kits Beach, believed to be the result of improperly discarded cigarettes.

While police officers had to make some arrests and deal with a few incidents and alcohol-fueled disturbances, the large crowd was once again generally well-behaved.
