A high risk sexual offender is in custody after an overnight residential break-in.
Just before 7:30 a.m. yesterday, police were called to the 1000 block East 21st Avenue after an alert citizen observed a man breaking into the garage attached to a home. The citizen verbally challenged the suspect, who then fled the scene carrying a number of items stolen from the garage.
The Vancouver Police Canine Unit arrived, and the police dog team tracked the suspect, locating him approximately two blocks away. A 50-year-old Vancouver man was arrested without incident and taken to jail. All of the stolen property was recovered.
Charges of break-and-enter have been requested and the man is being held in custody until his court appearance date, which is set for tomorrow.
