In May 2014, a woman reported her car had been stolen from outside her home. Ten days later, police located the car, arrested the suspected car thief with the assistance of a police dog and returned the car to the rightful owner.

Yesterday, the owner of the car called back to police to report that she believed someone had been taking her car overnight and returning it over the last few days. Patrol officers initiated an investigation and observed a young man as he attempted to steal the car.

Officers were able to immediately take the alleged car thief into custody, but two other suspects fled on foot. A police dog team was called in, who tracked and located both of them a block away, hiding up on the rear deck of an unrelated home.

It was determined the thief was the same individual arrested and charged in the original theft back in May, and that the car keys had never been recovered.

All three suspects, two young men from Vancouver and a young woman from Surrey, are young offenders and the men are known to police. Charges of theft of auto over $5000, breach of probation and trespass at night have been recommended.
