One man has now been charged in relation to a brazen home invasion at an apartment in a busy downtown neighbourhood last week.

On August 19th at about 3:30 p.m., police were called to an apartment building in the area of Davie and Denman Street after receiving a report that a man with a gun had forced his way into a suite.

During the home invasion, one man escaped the suite by jumping from a 7th floor balcony. That victim was taken to the hospital with relatively minor injuries. Three others in the apartment during this targeted home invasion were not injured.

On August 27th, the VPD Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a Vancouver residence and took the occupant of the home into custody without incident.

The investigation by the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section is ongoing and has led to the recovery of two handguns and stolen property.

Thirty-four-year-old Ira Matthew Winrob has been charged with break-and-enter and unlawful confinement. Additional charges are expected to be recommended. Winrob has no criminal record and is not known to police. He remains in custody until his next court appearance.
