Vancouver Police arrest four men after an alleged attempted armed robbery of a Richmond jewellery store.
Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on September 16th, three masked men armed with a shotgun tried to enter Wonderland Jewellery located at Aberdeen Mall in Richmond. They were unable to gain access and fled to a waiting stolen Jeep Cherokee driven by a fourth suspect.
The stolen Cherokee was driven to Thorpe Road near Dallyn in Richmond, where it was abandoned. The four got into a stolen Ford F-350 pick-up truck and drove to Burnaby. At about 4:00, the group stole another Jeep Cherokee and the pick-up truck was also dumped.
The group in the stolen Jeep travelled to Port Moody and attempted to steal two more cars on Cecil Drive, but in the end all four fled on foot.
Vancouver Police Emergency Response Team and three VPD Canine Units immediately began to track the men as they jumped a fence in an attempt to evade arrest.
The first was quickly spotted in the yard of a home on Tuxedo Drive and was taken into custody by one of the police dogs after he failed to comply with the officers’ directions. The second man was tracked by another police service dog and located hiding in a boat in the yard of a house on Mount Royal Court.
The last two were found hiding in the bushes of a yard on Westmount Drive by the third K-9 unit shortly after 5:00.
Officers recovered a shotgun and ammunition at the scene in Port Moody. Three of the four robbery suspects received dog bites and were treated at hospital.
Charges of robbery with a firearm, disguise with intent, possession of stolen property and possession of firearm have been requested. All four men have an extensive history of negative police contacts and remain in custody until their next court appearance in Richmond on Friday, September 19th.
