What began as a shoplifting arrest has led to more serious charges for one alleged thief.

On Monday, January 26th, loss prevention officers at the London Drugs located at 3328 Kingsway were watching a man walk through numerous aisles in the store, picking up several items. The man then allegedly walked past the cash registers without paying.

Once outside of the store, the man broke into a run. Loss prevention staff caught up with him, and after a brief struggle, placed him in handcuffs. During the struggle, staff told police the man kept reaching for a small bag he had in his possession.

When officers arrived and searched the man’s bag, they found three semi-automatic handguns. Two were loaded and there was ammunition in the bag for each weapon.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with six firearms related offences and three counts of carrying a concealed weapon. He remains in custody until his next court appearance.
