Vancouver Police continue to look for evidence and potential witnesses to a sexual assault on the city’s west side early this morning.

Shortly after 6:00 a.m., a 30-year-old woman was jogging on West 16th Avenue near Discovery Street. She was attacked from behind by a man who threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

The victim managed to scream and fight off her attacker. She received some minor injuries in the assault and is understandably extremely distraught and shaken by the incident.

An extensive search of the area by officers and a police service dog failed to locate the suspect.

Investigators will continue their efforts to identify the attacker and will be in the area throughout the day looking for evidence and canvasing the neighbourhood for witnesses.

Anyone with information, or who may have seen something suspicious, is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit at (604) 717-0600 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
