Investigators are looking for witnesses who may have information about a fire that claimed the life of two people.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on April 13th, police noticed a building fire at 955 East Hastings Street and heard people screaming inside. Officers attempted to enter the building, but the smoke was too thick. Vancouver Fire and Rescue Service was called and two people were subsequently rescued from the 2nd floor of the building. Rescuers were unfortunately unable to reach two others who remained inside.

The VPD, Vancouver Fire and Rescue Service and the BC Coroners Service continue to work together to determining the cause of the fire and the factors involved in the two deaths.

Several witnesses have been interviewed and investigators believe that there was possibly another person who managed to escape the burning building who has not yet spoken with police.

Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to contact the Vancouver Police at (604) 717-2962 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
