2014.05.15. safe-boating-awareness-weekVancouver Police are again partnering with boating safety advocates to promote safety on the water.

On May 16th, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., the VPD Marine Unit will be at Vanier Park to officially launch Safe Boating Awareness Week, a national campaign that runs through May 22nd.

Traditionally, the long weekend of May marks the beginning of recreational boating season.

The Vancouver Police and our partners want to remind everyone that there are risks on the water. The VPD Marine Unit is helping to raise awareness about these risks to ensure that the thousands of boaters, sailors and paddlers are prepared to enjoy themselves safely.

Officers will be on the water to ensure boaters remember to:

  • wear your lifejacket
  • don’t drink and boat
  • take a boating safety course
  • be prepared (both you and your vessel)
  • be aware of cold water risks
