As a result of a number of calls for police service at recent unsanctioned events, police are reminding promoters to work with police in advance, and to obtain proper permits, to reduce the chances that police will be calling on promoters to pay policing costs.

Warm summer weather means police see a number of large, unsanctioned gatherings take place in the city and in our parks, such as bike raves and outdoor music events, that have a negative impact on the surrounding neighbourhoods and put people’s safety at risk.

By requesting a permit, police are able to plan their resources ahead of time to help you and your guests celebrate your event safely.

“Involve the police before your party starts,” says VPD spokesperson, Sergeant Randy Fincham. “We don’t want to have to show up uninvited.”
