Investigators continue to gather evidence, canvass for witnesses, and probe the circumstances surrounding a death at a house in East Vancouver yesterday afternoon.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m., police and paramedics were called to the home on East 24th Avenue near Rupert Street after the teenage victim was found by a family member seriously injured. He was rushed to hospital, but did not survive.

The death was considered suspicious at first, but after a preliminary investigation, detectives with the VPD Major Crime Section have now determined the death is a homicide.

The boy has been identified as 15-year-old Jason Nguyen. He was initially reported to be 16-years-old, but while he was born in 1999, he had not yet reached his 16th birthday.

It is still very early in the investigation and there are limited details to share, but police do not believe the attack was random. This is Vancouver’s 9th homicide of the year.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at (604) 717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
