Update: Missing Hiker’s Body Found

Vancouver Police are looking for a missing 49-year-old hiker last seen on October 23rd.

Michael Charles Low had told friends of his plan to leave late in the morning on Friday, October 23, for the Keith Flavelle hut located near the headwaters of Cerise Creek. He planned to overnight in the hut and return in the early afternoon of Saturday, October 24, to meet friends for dinner.

His friends reported Michael missing to the Vancouver Police when he failed to show for dinner and they were unable to contact him on his cellular phone.

A Vancouver Police missing persons investigation led to the discovery of Mr. Low’s white 2002 GMC Safari van in the Cerise Creek trail head parking lot at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday night. Pemberton SAR personnel have been mobilized and will begin a comprehensive search at first light on Sunday morning.

Michael is described as white, 5’10” tall, 200 lbs., with blue eyes and short grey hair.

The Cerise Creek trail head is located along the Duffy Lake Road near Pemberton, BC. The trail is a relatively short hike along remote forest with an elevation gain of 305m.  Keith Flavelle hut is located near the headwaters of Cerise Creek surrounded by forest and steep mountainous terrain.
