Two men are facing criminal charges after a VPD officer watched them steal another bait bike last night in Vancouver’s downtown core.

At about 10:00 p.m. on November 17th, patrol officers locked one of the bait bikes to a bike rack on the corner of the Hamilton and Dunsmuir Street. In less than a half hour, officers observed a man approach the area on a bike. With a second accomplice allegedly keeping watch, the man broke the lock, removed the bike and walked away with it.

Both men were quickly arrested.

Police have recommended charges of theft and mischief for the pair, a 48-year-old Vancouver resident and 21-year-old Richmond man.

This incident comes after VPD provided details yesterday of another arrest by officers deploying bait bikes downtown.

The Vancouver Police Log It or Lose It campaign encourages everyone to record the serial numbers of their bikes, and other property, so it can easily be returned if recovered. You can also register your bike with the Project 529 bike registry for free.
