FACT SHEET

A rash of marine-related crimes in the Vancouver area and outlying communities has led to the arrest of two men, the search for more victims, and a caution from police.

For several months, the VPD Marine Unit has been working closely with the Bowen Island, North Vancouver and Squamish RCMP detachments, as well as the West Vancouver Police, to investigate a number of thefts and break-ins. The crimes were specifically targeting marinas, anchored vessels in local harbours and remote properties on Howe Sound islands.

The investigation resulted in a search warrant, arrests and in the recovery of stolen boats, stolen marine equipment and clothing, personal property and firearms.

Police have positively identified and returned some of the property to the rightful owners and efforts are being made to identify additional victims so that their belongings can also be returned.

Thirty-five-year-old Jeremy Edward Donald Walker and 39-year-old Liam Eric Fell have been charged with a variety of firearms and property related offences.

The Vancouver Police Marine Unit is asking boat owners to appropriately secure their vessels and tenders, report suspicious marine activity to local police, and not leave items of value on their vessel when unattended.

Law enforcement agencies continue to work together and share information about crimes and prolific offenders with the goal of identifying trends, preventing crime, arresting suspects and returning stolen property to victims.

Anyone who recognizes any of the photos of stolen items is asked to contact the VPD Marine Unit at 604-717-2791.
