Charges have been approved by Crown in relation to violent and bizarre attacks downtown.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Monday, February 29th, police received calls to 9-1-1 about an assault occurring near Canada Place and Burrard Street. A young woman was allegedly attacking pedestrians in the area and attempted to throw a 31-year-old woman off the pier and into the water below. Witnesses intervened and the woman ran off. She was found and arrested by police a short distance away at Harbour Green Park.

While at hospital, she kicked an 88-year-old woman lying on a nearby stretcher in the head. She was taken to jail, but was later transported back to hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries.

Twenty-year-old Ana Jankovic has now been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault. She remains in custody until her next court appearance on March 8th.

Police are still looking to identify additional witnesses and potentially other victims who left the area prior to the arrival of police. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541.
