When a police officer pulls over a driver who has committed a traffic violation, they often hear this question from the person behind the wheel – “Don’t you have anything better to do?”

No one wants a ticket and many drivers are understandably upset when they get stopped by police.

The VPD are in the middle of a month-long campaign to combat high-risk driving behaviours. Trying to keep our roads safe for everyone is a priority for police, but it is only a small part of what our front line officers do every day.

Officers tend not to answer that popular question, but for anyone who wondered what the answer is, this list of some of the calls that come in to the VPD every day may help.

** List shows the number and type or category of call to the VPD in a 24-hour time period on a randomly chosen date and does not include all of the ongoing investigations, follow-ups, protests, demonstrations, community outreach, crime prevention or special events **
