The Vancouver Police Department Major Crime Section is investigating and one suspect has been arrested after an incident in East Vancouver.

Shortly after 1:00 P.M. officers were on an unrelated call in the area of Hastings and Cassiar Street when they were told about a car fire in the McDonald’s parking lot.

When officers went to deal with the car fire and keep the public away until firefighters could arrive, they were confronted by a man armed with a knife.

The man allegedly came at the officers and shots were fired. He was taken into custody and transported to hospital for gunshot and stab wounds.

The suspect, a 28-year-old man who is associated to the burning car remains in hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Several witnesses have been identified and police continue to canvass for any video that will assist in the investigations.

As Vancouver Police investigators probe the criminal actions of this individual and determine his activity prior to his confrontation with police, the IIO will be looking to see if police officers may have committed any offences.
