A cyclist injured in a collision in Stanley Park last week has now died from his injuries.

Shortly before 2:00 p.m. on May 17th, a car made contact with a 72-year-old man who was riding his bike as they travelled along Stanley Park Drive near Second Beach. The collision caused the cyclist to lose his balance and crash heavily onto the roadway. He was taken to hospital for surgery for a serious head injury.

The man remained in hospital until Monday May 23rd, when he passed away.

Members of the Vancouver Police Collision Investigation Unit continue to probe the factors involved in the collision. The 20-year-old driver has been cooperative with police and there is no indication that speed, alcohol, or distracted driving played a role in the crash.

This is Vancouver’s 9th traffic-related fatality this year.
