Update: February 10, 2017

Vancouver Police have located the body of a woman who has been missing for about three weeks.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on September 28th, officers made the discovery on the property of the Davie Street mansion near Nicola Street. The body has been identified as 30-year-old Natsumi Kogawa.

After several days without contact with friends or family, Ms. Kogawa was reported missing on September 12th, 2016, to the VPD. Investigators determined that Ms. Kogawa was last seen in Burnaby on September 8th, and the primary missing persons investigation was turned over to the Burnaby RCMP Serious Crimes Unit.

The missing person investigation led police to search the grounds at 1523 Davie Street in Vancouver. Upon discovery of a body at that location, the investigation was turned over to the VPD Major Crime Section, who are now actively investigating Ms. Kogawa’s death.

A 48-year-old man was taken into custody in relation to the investigation. He was arrested by the RCMP in Vernon, B.C., shortly before midnight on the same day Ms. Kogawa’s body was located. William Victor Schneider, has now been charged with Indignity to a human body and remains in custody.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. The VPD and the RCMP continue to work closely to gather and analyze evidence in this matter.
