One man is now dead, and two others remain in hospital, after a triple stabbing early this morning on the edge of downtown.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m., two groups of men got into an altercation near the taxi stand at the Plaza of Nations at 750 Pacific Boulevard. A fight broke out and police received several 9-1-1 calls. When officers arrived, they found two men in their 20s with serious stab wounds. Both men were rushed to hospital in critical condition. One of them, a 25-year-old Burnaby resident, has since died from his injuries.

A third victim who showed up at Burnaby General Hospital a few hours after the incident, also suffering from stab wounds, is believed to have been involved in what occurred at the Plaza of Nations. He was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have taken several witnesses and persons-of-interest into custody to be interviewed. Investigators continue to gather evidence and any potential video from nearby businesses in an attempt to determine the motive for the attack and to identify potential suspects.

Anyone with information about this stabbing and murder is asked to call the VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
