Vancouver Police investigators have determined that the injuries sustained by a man following a shooting in the Downtown Eastside early this morning were accidentally self-inflicted.

Around 2:30 a.m., police responded to a report that a man was collapsed on the ground in front of the Maple Hotel, 177 East Hastings Street. When officers arrived, they determined that he had been shot. He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains in stable condition.

Following interviews with investigators, police have determined that the man’s injuries were self-inflicted, following the accidental discharge of a firearm. Police will now be focusing their attention on the circumstances surrounding the possession of that firearm, and potential firearms-related charges.
