MISSING PERSONS UNIT
In the past number of weeks, we’ve been approached by the media on a number of high profile missing person’s cases.
As the sergeant in charge of the Missing Persons Unit, I’m here today to make a public appeal for information and to provide you with information on some of our active cases.
What may come as a surprise to many is that in 2011 we investigated 3,691 missing person’s reports; this means over 10 people are reported missing each day in Vancouver.
Of these 3,691 cases only two remain open. In other words, we closed and solved 99.9% of all our investigations.
Now, Id like to talk about our unsolved cases.
Mathew Huszar
Mathew Huszar was last seen around midnight on December 16th, 2011, after leaving a Christmas party in Gastown. He was supposed to be leaving for Victoria the following day, but never arrived.
Mathew worked as a geologist for a mining company. He is 25 years old, white, 5’11” tall and 160 lbs.
These five men range in age from 19 to 29 years old. Their cases have been reviewed by the Major Crime Section. To date, there are no indicators or leads suggesting foul play was involved in their disappearances.
There are no substantive links between these files and each of the five missing persons has distinct differences and circumstances surrounding their disappearances.
Missing persons’ cases are difficult and emotional for their families; we owe it to their loved ones to thoroughly investigate and exhaust all leads for each case.
