Update

At the request of the RCMP, Vancouver Police have agreed to investigate a fatal police-involved shooting involving 26 year old Angus David Mitchell that occurred in Maple Ridge shortly after noon today.

Earlier this morning, Angus David Mitchell was the subject of a public warning by the Burnaby RCMP in relation to two recent shootings in Burnaby. Following the warning, a tip was called in to the Ridge Meadows RCMP by a citizen advising that Mitchell’s van was on an isolated road in Maple Ridge. The RCMP Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team immediately responded to the area.

The van and Mitchell were located on 216 Street just north of 132 Avenue, and shots were fired. Mitchell was airlifted to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. No RCMP officers were injured and a rifle was seized at the scene.

VPD Major Crime investigators will be attending the scene of the shooting to begin their investigation. Any witnesses are asked to contact the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at (604) 717-2500.

Investigators expect to remain on scene throughout the afternoon and into the evening.
