Vancouver Police want to remind people to lock their windows and doors after a several recent break-ins in southwest Vancouver.
Over the past week, Vancouver Police have investigated four separate break-and-enter files where in each case the suspect gained entry to the apartment or house through an open window or door. In three of the cases, the suspect was confronted by the resident and ran off. All of the break-ins have happened between 4 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. in the Kitsilano and Point Grey neighbourhoods.
Investigators are attempting to identify links and establish a suspect profile, but at this time no link has been found. It appears that open cash or easily accessed valuables in plain view are the motives for the break-ins.
There have been 1,167 residential break-and-enters in Vancouver so far this year, 449 in southwest Vancouver. While the number is down 16% from last year city-wide and 13% in southwest Vancouver, the Vancouver Police Department is asking homeowners to remain vigilant, particularly since 31% of these residential break-ins city-wide, 29% in southwest Vancouver, show no signs of forced entry.
Police are asking residents to be vigilant about locking their doors and windows and report any suspicious persons or circumstances.
