Vancouver Police are renewing a January 3rd public appeal to locate two Good Samaritans responsible for interrupting a New Year’s Day sexual assault.

On January 1st around 4:00 a.m., a young woman got out of a taxi in the 1500 block of West Broadway. As the woman walked east on the north side of Broadway, a man approached and sexually assaulted her. Two men waiting at a nearby bus stop came to the woman’s aid and the suspect ran away.

“These two men were responsible for stopping this attack before it progressed further,” says Geoff Gabriel of the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit. “They should be commended for their actions.”

Investigators would like to speak with the Good Samaritans, as they may have valuable information that could help identify the attacker.

The suspect was described as white, in his 40s, and 6’4″ tall with a slender build. He had a shaved head, was clean-shaven and was wearing a black hoodie with the hood up, a shiny black, faux-leather, waist-length jacket, dark pants and brown hiking boots.

The victim of the attack, a 38 year old Vancouver woman, has suffered a great deal of emotional distress but was not physically injured in the incident.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit at (604) 717-0600 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
