Update

The Vancouver Police Department is appealing to the public for information regarding two attacks on women that occurred on May 4th and May 5th, 2013.  

2013.05.10. sex-assault-suspectOn May 4th, shortly after 10:00 p.m., a 22 year old Vancouver woman was walking on West Pender near Granville Street when a man followed her and attempted to start a conversation. He continued to follow her on Pender to Cambie Street where he pushed her into a parking lot and knocked her to the ground. The victim, who believed the man was going to sexually assault her, fought back. The man fled when witnesses took notice of the woman’s screams.

On May 5th, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a 26 year old Vancouver woman was standing at the Cambie Pub on Cambie near Cordova Street when she was grabbed by a man and dragged into the south lane. The victim told police that she believed the man was going to sexually assault her and she also fought back. A witness intervened in the attack and the man fled westbound in the lane. 2013.05.10. sex-assault-suspect

The suspect is described as white, 20 to 30 years old, 5’6″ to 5’10” tall, with a medium build. He was wearing long shorts, a dark sweater and a dark baseball cap.  Police believe that the same person is responsible for both attacks and that the attacks were sexually motivated.

Detectives with the VPD Sex Crimes Unit believe there are many witnesses to both assaults that have not yet come forward. Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have heard or seen something, and are releasing video of a person of interest in the attacks.
