Charges have been approved and an 18 year old Vancouver man remains in custody after Tuesday’s shooting near St. George Street and 52nd Avenue.

At about 6:10 p.m. on July 30th, police received calls to 9-1-1 reporting several shots fired. Shortly after, a 19 year old woman and 18 year old man walked in to Vancouver General Hospital. The woman had minor injuries believed to have been sustained as a result of the shooting.

Police arrived at VGH and found the man and woman, along with an SUV with damage from gunfire.

At 11:30 p.m. that same day, officers located a suspect at a nearby home and took him into custody without incident.

The scene of the shooting was thoroughly processed and the SUV was towed for forensic examination.

The investigation is on-going and detectives continue to gather evidence. Early indications are that the shooting was targeted and related to a dispute between the two men, who are known to each other. The woman who was treated and released from VGH is not believed to have been the intended target.

Hartej Singh Kang has been charged with attempted murder, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm and two counts of discharging a firearm with intent to wound or disfigure. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 7th.
