Update

Police are continuing to negotiate with a man who has barricaded himself inside his residence at the Roosevelt Hotel.

At about 4:30 this morning, police attended the Roosevelt Hotel for a report of an assault. A 53 year old man allegedly confronted a woman inside the building and punched her in the face. When officers went to his room to arrest him, he refused to come out and barricaded himself inside.

The man has a lengthy criminal history. He has mental health issues and has committed previous unprovoked and random attacks on his victims.

Police believe his mental health is deteriorating and is possibly a danger to the public.

Police negotiators and mental health professionals have been speaking with the suspect all morning trying to get the man to exit his room and surrender.

Investigators have obtained a warrant to enter his residence to arrest him,  but are continuing the negotiation process to end the stand off peacefully.
