Police Want Drivers to Stop Reaching for Their Cell Phones

2014.06.06. your-hangupPolice officers in Vancouver are teaming up with Crime Watch volunteers looking for distracted drivers who can’t seem to stop putting lives at risk.

On June 4th and 5th, plainclothes traffic officers riding in covert Crime Watch cars stopped and ticketed 47 drivers for using an electronic device to call or text while driving. The ticket comes with a $167.00 fine.

“You never know who may be driving beside you when you reach for your cell phone,” says Inspector Les Yeo with the VPD Traffic Section. “No call or text is worth risking your safety or the safety of others.”

The VPD handed out tickets to 9,722 drivers last year alone for using an electronic devise.
