A pedestrian struck on Oak Street last week has now died as a result of his injuries.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on December 30th, a 59-year-old man was struck by a mini-van on Oak Street near West 15th Avenue. He was taken to hospital with head injuries that were considered serious, but were not initially believed to be life-threatening. The man remained in hospital, but never recovered. He was pronounced deceased this afternoon.

The 52-year-old driver remained at the scene and has been cooperating with police.

Oak Street was shut down in both directions after the collision to allow officers to safely examine, map and photograph the scene and gather evidence to determine the cause. The case remains under investigation by the VPD Collision Investigation Unit, but alcohol and speed are not considered contributing factors.
