Police continue to investigate a collision that occurred on Oak Street last night and resulted in the death of an elderly pedestrian.

Shortly before 10:00 p.m. on September 21st, a 75-year-old woman was crossing Oak Street at 53rd Avenue when she was struck by a southbound vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The car involved was driven by a 19-year-old Vancouver man. He remained at the scene and was cooperative with police.

While it is still early in the investigation, alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. The vehicle was towed for mechanical testing and officers have seized video from the area to assist in determining the circumstances involved.

This is Vancouver’s 10th fatal collision of 2015. Eight of those collisions involved a pedestrian.
