Update

Vancouver Police arrested a man after an assault downtown, who is also believed responsible for two random attacks on senior citizens last week.

On May 26th, an 84-year-old woman was sitting on her walker on West Broadway near Ash Street. As she waited for her ride, a man approached, kicked her off her seat, and walked away. The victim was taken to hospital with a broken elbow.

Two hours later, and a few blocks away near Broadway and Granville Street, a 70-year-old woman in a wheelchair out for a walk with her daughter was punched in the face by the same man. She suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

Mental health is believed to be a factor in the attacks.

The 33-year-old man remains in custody on unrelated assault charges as investigators continue to gather the evidence needed to recommend charges and determine any links to other potential incidents.
