Update: November 21, 2016

Police have made an arrest following a vacant home fire on Vancouver’s West Side.

Firefighters who were called to a home on Drummond Drive at West 2nd Avenue at around 3 pm Sunday afternoon, arrived in time to see a man running out of the burning building. He was detained and turned over to police minutes later.

Arson investigators believe the fire was purposely set, and a 38-year-old Vancouver resident remains in custody pending charge approval.

Police are continuing to investigate other recent Vancouver fires to determine if there is any connection to Sunday’s arrest.

“We need the public to remain vigilant, particularly in areas of vacant homes,” says Constable Jason Doucette, “Please report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 immediately.”

Anyone who may have information on any of the fires is asked to call police. A tip line has been set up at 604-717-0605, or at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
