Vancouver Police have arrested Tyler Lagimodiere for the murder of 61-year-old Lubomir “Lubo” Kunik. Mr. Kunik was found on February 1, 2017, on the Stanley Park seawall, suffering from stab wounds.

Crown Counsel has approved first-degree murder charges against Mr. Lagimodiere, a 29-year-old Vancouver resident. He was arrested on Monday afternoon and is currently in custody.

The murder is believed to be random in nature and not believed to be targeted. Mr. Lagimodiere and Mr. Kunik did not know each other and had never met prior to the incident. The investigation was challenging and complex, however, investigators were able to find a forensic link between the evidence found at the crime scene and the accused.

“Our investigators worked diligently and used a variety of investigative tactics and resources to solve this crime,” says VPD Superintendent Mike Porteous, officer-in-charge of Investigative Services. “Solving this murder has been a priority for the VPD and we want to thank the RCMP forensic laboratory, the Vancouver Park Board, and the general public for their assistance and support throughout this investigation.”
