Vancouver Police have arrested a man in his 20s following two separate assaults this morning in Kitsilano.

At around 7:15 a.m, the VPD received a report of a stabbing on West 13th Avenue near Arbutus Street. Officers located a man in his late 20s with serious injuries and he was rushed to hospital by BC Ambulance.

Minutes later, police received a 911 call about a man with a knife, who was bleeding from his chest, walking down Yew Street near West 4th Avenue. As officers rushed to the scene, the suspect allegedly approached a woman walking her dog and stabbed the dog. The woman was not physically hurt.

Officers arrived and the bloodied suspect fought with police until he was brought under control using a beanbag gun. The suspect was also rushed to hospital because he had an apparent stab wound to his chest. The dog was rushed to an emergency animal hospital for treatment.

Two of the officers received minor injuries.

Based on the initial investigation, the suspect and the victim on West 13th Avenue are known to each other and had been in an altercation before the suspect fled to the area of Yew and West 4th Avenue where he was arrested. Officers will be in the area collecting evidence throughout the day.
