Vancouver Police Investigate Early Morning Fatal Crash

Vancouver Police are investigating an early-morning, single-vehicle crash on Vancouver’s West Side that has claimed the life of the driver and sent the passenger to hospital.

Investigators believe that just before 3 a.m., a newer-model, white Nissan Versa, “Modo” shared car, was travelling south on Arbutus, when the driver lost control and struck a retaining wall near West 33rd Avenue. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The driver, a 30-year-old man from Burnaby, died at the scene. The only other passenger, a 32-year-old man from Langley, was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

This is Vancouver’s eighth traffic fatality of 2018. Investigators from the VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit have closed Arbutus Street from West 32nd Avenue to Quilchena Crescent in both directions. They anticipate it will re-open shortly.
