Vancouver Police investigate city’s third homicide

The Vancouver Police Major Crime Section is investigating an assault that claimed the life a young man on Friday night in the Downtown Eastside.

At around 9:15 p.m. March 15, there was an altercation near the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Keefer Street. The victim was allegedly assaulted with a weapon before the suspect ran off.

Several witnesses called 9-1-1 and the victim was rushed to hospital, where he later died. He has been identified as 19-year-old Vancouver resident Dakota Saje Wildeman-McNeil.

No arrests have been made. This was not a random act and there is no risk to the public.

This is Vancouver’s third homicide in 2019.
