Vancouver Police have arrested a 41-year-old man for a Christmas Day homicide in 2018.

Just after 7 p.m. on December 25, 2018, police responded to an assault at an all-male shelter near Cambie and Robson Street. The victim, 49-year-old Ralph House of Vancouver, sustained a head injury and was taken to hospital, where he died several days later.

VPD homicide detectives identified a suspect and launched an investigation after the incident. Vancouver resident Larry Johnson was arrested Wednesday without incident and has now been charged with one count of manslaughter.

“Homicide investigations can be complex and challenging cases to solve,” says Constable Steve Addison, VPD. “Our VPD investigators worked thoroughly and meticulously on this case to gather evidence. This incident was targeted, and there was never any risk to the public.”

Johnson remains in custody.
